KB Killa Beats: The Journey of a Zambian Music Production Pioneer

KB Killa Beats, born Yahya Kaba on June 20, 1983, is one of Zambia’s most respected record producers, media personalities, and music industry influencers. Popularly known as KB or Killa Beats, he has built a reputation as a creative force behind some of Zambia’s biggest hit songs and artists.

Over the years, KB has successfully balanced careers in music production, radio, and television, making him one of the most versatile figures in the country’s entertainment industry.

Early Production Career

KB’s breakthrough as a producer came in 2009 when he handled full production credits for the song Doubting by R&B singer Judy Yo.

Following that success, he continued working on Judy’s projects as well as music for Alpha Romeo’s album President. These projects helped establish him as one of the rising producers shaping Zambia’s modern sound, particularly in R&B, hip-hop, and Afro-pop.

Producing Major Hits

In 2010, KB produced the Double Trouble album, a collaboration involving the late P Jay and B Flow.

His influence continued growing in 2013 with the production of B Flow’s hit song Cry of a Woman and Kazizi ni Kazizi by Tyce Zig Zag. These songs further cemented his status as one of the country’s elite producers.

In 2015, KB released his first producer compilation album titled My Diary, a project that brought together multiple artists and showcased his versatility behind the boards.

Working with Zambia’s Biggest Artists

Throughout his career, KB has collaborated with many of Zambia’s leading musicians. His production credits include work with T-Sean, Roberto, Slapdee, JK, Cleo Ice Queen, Petersen Zagaze, Jae Cash, Urban Hype, and many others.

His ability to adapt to different genres and artist styles has made him one of the most sought-after producers in Zambia.

Radio and Television Career

Aside from music production, KB has enjoyed a successful career in broadcasting. He began as a radio presenter at Choice FM in 2004, working alongside personalities such as Tivo and Kaliwa.

In 2005, he joined QFM Radio, where he worked until 2012. During that time, he gained significant experience and won the Best Radio DJ award in 2006.

In 2013, KB expanded into television by joining Muvi TV. There, he co-hosted the breakfast show alongside Costa Mwansa and Mumbi Kalimba, while also presenting a sports program with Isaac Chipwatanga.

He later became widely recognized as one of the judges on MTN Music Scorer and Dreams Zambia, helping identify and mentor emerging talent.

Founder of K Army

KB is also the founder of K Army, a record label and creative platform dedicated to producing quality music and nurturing upcoming artists.

Through K Army, he has continued to shape the Zambian music industry by producing hits for both established stars and rising talents.
