Wezi: The Voice of Inspiration in Zambian Music

Wezi, born Victoria Wezi Mhone on 25 May 1992, is one of Zambia’s most soulful and inspiring vocalists. Born and raised in Ndola, she comes from a deeply spiritual and supportive family. Her father, the late Apostle Simon Mhone, and her mother, Pastor Royce Chanje Banda—who currently resides in Lusaka—played a key role in nurturing her early passion for music.

From a very young age, Wezi showed signs of musical talent. By the age of seven, she was already performing for family members, classmates, and teachers. Her confidence and natural gift for singing quickly became evident, setting the foundation for her future career.

Early Passion for Writing and Performance

At just 11 years old, Wezi began writing her own poems and songs, expressing her emotions through words and melody. During her school years, she became actively involved in music and performance, eventually leading a singing group in the “Scripture Union” club during primary school.

As she progressed into junior and senior secondary school, her talent continued to shine. She performed in front of large audiences of over 700 students during school presentations, gaining recognition as a powerful young vocalist with a strong stage presence.

A Personal Calling Through Music

Wezi has often expressed that her music is driven by a deeper purpose. She once shared that she felt a strong inner conviction that her voice could make a difference in people’s lives.

She also credits her inspiration to her faith, stating that God is her ultimate source of creativity and guidance. For her, every life experience—whether joyful or painful—becomes material for writing new music that connects with listeners on a deeper level.

Beginning of Her Professional Journey

Wezi officially began her professional music career in 2012. As a proud Christian artist, her music is often rooted in emotional storytelling, spirituality, and social reflection.

While pursuing her artistic path, she also committed herself to education. She is currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in the School of Humanities at the University of Zambia, with ambitions of combining academic knowledge and artistic talent to influence and inspire people across Africa and beyond.

Breakthrough with Uhai

Her major breakthrough came with the release of her first music compilation project titled Uhai on 30 January 2016. The project featured standout songs such as Nyimbo Zako, Chi Daddy, Translate (a ZoneFam cover), Nthenda, and Ambuya.

The project introduced her unique sound to a wider audience and established her as one of Zambia’s most promising new artists at the time.

Collaborations and International Recognition

Throughout her career, Wezi has collaborated with several respected artists, including Jay Rox, Cleo Ice Queen, General Ozzy, and Maureen Lilanda.

She has also shared international stages with globally recognized artists such as British singer Joss Stone and South African diva Zahara, further expanding her reach beyond Zambia.

Awards and Rising Success

In April 2016, Wezi received her first major recognition when she was awarded Best Upcoming/New Artist at the Zambia Music Awards. This milestone confirmed her rising influence in the music industry and marked the beginning of a promising career trajectory.

A Vision for the Future

Wezi continues to grow as both an artist and a student, with a vision of becoming a respected African brand that blends music, education, and social impact. Her goal is to inspire people from all walks of life through meaningful music and storytelling.

With her powerful voice, strong values, and dedication to her craft, Wezi stands as one of Zambia’s most inspiring female artists, representing both talent and purpose in the evolving music landscape.
